Caring for your jewels

To keep your beautiful new jewellery item looking lovely we recommend a few simple steps to care, clean and store your jewels.

Care:

To keep your metal item looking it’s best we recommend taking it off before showering, swimming, exercising, applying lotions and perfumes and before bed. Always protect your jewellery from knocks and scrapes and avoid using abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals when wearing your jewels to avoid scratching.

Storage:

When not wearing your item we suggest storing it an airtight bag (with the exception of pearls), a soft pouch or the jewellery box provided. Avoid extreme heat, sunlight and moisture.

Cleaning:

Oxidisation is the term used to describe when metals turn black or a darker colour, when the surface of metal is exposed to oxygen this discolouration occurs. It happens to almost all metals and is often hastened by exposure to certain liquids, perfumes, body lotions and sometimes even the natural PH of a person’s skin. The best way to clean your jewellery is to use a jewellery polishing cloth, these can be purchased at most jewellery stores. Simply rub the item gently but firmly in even strokes. You can also use a quality silver polish (for sterling silver pieces) or use a mild soap in warm soapy water and gently rub with a soft brush (a soft toothbrush helps to get into small crevices!). Make sure you rinse and dry you item with a soft cotton cloth straight away.

Plated pieces need extra care and should only be cleaned in warm water and dried immediately with a soft cloth.

Gemstones and pearls require special care and should be checked regularly to ensure the setting is tight. Gems can be washed in warm soapy water with a gentle brush. Pearls should be gently rubbed with a lint free cloth and must NOT be submerged in water.
