New collection from Penny Sage has it's debut in these difficult and strange times that we now find ourselves in. For all creative endeavours - especially tactile, audiovisual - experiential, sometimes a handful of images online isn’t enough to communicate the richness, the quality or the depth of a thing. Although Penny Sage is a New Zealand brand and a lot of us first knew of the label through online platforms - the lush fabrics, knits and detailed finishing on their clothing must be touched, held and worn to be fully engaged with. Unlike some brands, the magic of the clothing isn’t diminished when seen and worn IRL - it grows and deepens as you are transformed wearing one of their pieces - for example, in this season’s stunning Joan Shirt, or sturdy Dreyfus Jean...
This collection demands attention - featuring a pared-back selection of pieces that focus on the extensive Penny Sage back catalogue, reimagined in stunning new colourways and prints. Think colourful stripes spliced with dark and stormy colours such as Petrol Denim - for those intense winter days, and with cute/fun details such as bright green zips, contrast topstitching and shiny buttons to keep you lifted.
Currently in store is the Posey Wrap top, which is a lovely long sleeve cropped wrap top. Featuring wrap ties and full split at the centre back, with round perspex button fastenings at the back neck and waist - wear wrapped or with bow detail at the front. Also a lovely companion piece to the Posey Wrap, is the Joan shirt - a fine corduroy number, this top can be worn as a light jacket - featuring cropped length, dropped shoulder, cuffed sleeve and a collar. For when the band gets back together - this is the top you want to be wearing!

In the mix is the return of the knockout Dreyfus Jeans, with corozo nut buttons and subtle shaping, the Drefyus Jean also features high waist, straight leg shape making them go-to’s for daily activities - if you still need a bit of structure in your life, these are for you!
In that Petrol Denim I mentioned earlier - we have the Lyrical Dress, which is a long A-line dress with low scooping front and back neckline. Roomy fit perfect for the changing season, and possibly fulfilling the need for both comfort and style, the dress features lime green top contrast stitching and a raw hem designed to fray with wear. An investment piece that you will thank yourself for, wear with bulky knits as well as sheer long sleeves…the “go to” for those serious ZOOM meetings to come!
We have some luxuriously fine knits that have just come through - not available online yet, we wouldn’t want to tease but returning is the sultry Sylvette knit, which is a 100% fine merino wool long sleeve, featuring a wide v-neck front and small cable knit structure. It’s knitted to shape resulting in minimum waste…coming in two dreamy colourways, cream and bronze.. heaven! Also in the same drop is the Wiebke Skivvy, which is a shaped rib knit top with a mock turtleneck and short sleeves, fully fashioned knit in a soft merino wool, pare with the Lyrical Dress or the Sophy Jumpsuit (forthcoming!) We can’t wait!

The collection is titled ‘Ray’ which - according to the dictionary, can be defined as ‘each of the lines in which light (and heat) may seem to stream from the sun or any luminous body, or pass through a small opening’ I choose to highlight this as, considering what a turbulent few weeks (months for some) we have had - and the unknowing of what is to come, maybe the new collection and these images below can serve as some kind of small ray of light in which to gather inspiration and zest for life from - in these times we must support and hold onto creative endeavours - of our own and ones already out in the world. We think creativity (of all kinds) makes the world a happier, better and more functional place in which to live…
