Penny Sage

Penny Sage's new collection ‘fernweh” comes from a German word, which loosely translated into English means ‘Wanderlust' or the desire to travel, a longing for far-off places. In this collection, there is a definite sense of romantic longing or gazing off into the distance..wishing to escape - if just for a moment - to another place where experience and the tactility of being in the universe is the only activity of the day.

The pieces we have here at MHD are definitely dreamy…the collection features the Claude Jean which is a high waisted, straight leg jean with a relaxed fit. Coming in two colorways - dusty pink denim and vivid blue denim, a perfect trans-seasonal pant due to the lighter denim material, and a classic cut which has longevity. We also have the beautifully delicate Slyvette knit, which is an off the shoulder, fine merino wool cable knit top. Knitted to shape resulting in minimum waste, featuring a wide v-neck front and ribbed cuffs, it is for sure a sultry alternative to those winter nights out in awkward bulky woolen knits - a knockout piece for any special event. In addition to the more forward pieces is the picture perfect investment coat titled the 'Tezeta’. It is a double breasted mid-grey wool 3/4 length coat featuring a two-piece lapel and front welt pockets. In addition, the perspex buttons which feature on the coat, are handmade by jewellery designer Zelda Murray. A timeless coat, for all occasions to be sure.

The Wyatt jean, which has previously been seen at MHD in indigo denim, has been re-cut in a natural denim tone. We can’t stress enough how much this is the ultimate jean! With a flattering shape featuring a straight leg graduating to a slight flare and a high rise waist which you can pair with literally any top - these pants are the ’the ones’… to wear, own and love. Even more exciting is the release of the matching denim jacket. The Wyatt jacket, which is a longer ‘coach style’ denim jacket with deep pockets and contrast stitch detailing. Like it’s pant counterpart this jacket is a versatile, modern design which will literally help you weather the storm that is winter.

A little later in the season, we have a very special knit jumper dropping. An allover pattern number, based on the artwork of Imogen Taylor. An Auckland based artist represented by a local gallery, Michael Lett.

Ultimately the collection is set up for utility, to pick up what you have around you and head for the hills. Having a pair of go-to jeans that look good with everything and a big warm jacket is all you need for adventure. Travel can take many forms and sometimes to go on a sweet day trip with your warm Tezeta coat is all the escape you need…. take a trip in stores, to see for yourself.
