This week we paid a visit to our lovely friend Bella Clark of the aptly named Bella Clark Jewellery. Bella's studio is located in the marvellous and historic Nicholas Building in the middle of the Melbourne CBD, a hidden treasure tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the perfect spot for a short chat.
What do you do?
I'm a jeweller. I design and hand make everything for my label Bella Clark Jewellery.
What’s your daily routine?
I wake up, make a smoothie and a cup of coffee and do some emailing, then head into the city to my studio. My studio is in the Nicholas Building so it's always so special to walk through the arcade every morning. From there I get as much work done as possible, pop out to the suppliers, come back to the studio, and finish orders off before the post office shuts. After a day in the studio I always need to stretch out so I usually head to yoga on my way home. Then I'll make a delish dinner at home then hang out with my partner and watch a movie or listen to some nice music.
Where do you draw inspiration?
I avoid looking at jewellery for inspiration. I like to draw inspiration organically. From art, fashion, furniture, my friends, people in the street... anything that catches my eye really!
Do you have a favourite artist?
Oh that's a hard one! Its always changing but at the moment I love Petra Collins, Kwok Hoi Chan and David Salle.
What do you do to take a break from studio life?
Get out of Melbourne for sure. Sometimes I just really need a break from the busy city life. I like to take trips with friends or my partner, whether its a trip to the snow or a beach, a hike somewhere, or a day trip to Daylesford.
What’s in store for the rest of 2017?
I'm heading overseas shortly so I'm hoping to come back full of ideas and inspiration for some exciting new projects.
