This week on the blog we caught up with Beci Orpin at Juanita Peaches. Beci, local artist and designer extraordinaire wears the Single Knee painter pants on the regular, so we thought it fitting for her to model the latest colour ways from the label. Here at Monk House design we collaborated on these exclusive colour ways with Stan Ray, and we are super dooper excited! We have the both the Shop Jacket and the Single Knee Painter Pant available in Lime Sherbet and Lilac.
Along with the pieces from Stan Ray, Beci is also a big fan of new label to MHD – Bichon Pockets. Run by Mima Bulj, who sources leather offcuts to make her fun and gorgeous bags and pockets, which would otherwise go to landfill. Environmentally conscious and sexy, we can’t get enough. Also thrown into the mix are longtime favorites P.A.M – pieces from their new collection ‘Above The Clouds’ which has just been released worldwide. Not to mention the much coveted Suicoke sandal. We featured the GGA, the KISSE and the Chin2Cab styles from our most recent drop! Captured in the most fitting pastel- filled setting; Beci’s husband Raph Rashid started up Juanita Peaches in 2015 to sate his dream of making and serving fried chicken (so the story goes, this was actually always in the plan, all the other businesses were distracting ‘side-projects’...indeed!)
The restaurant was also formally home to All Day Donuts, (another incredible side project!) which now shares the name and contents with Juanita Peaches. Also playing home base to the Taco and Burger Truck empire. The trucks being ubiquitous across the Northside landscape, the first bricks and mortar store is a beautifully considered space with pops of delicious colour and texture combinations, a mix of petite marble and more communal tables; sets the scene for maximum dining experience. Serving donuts, coffee and a mix of all Raph’s savory passions; friend chicken, burgers, burritos and much much more, it’s a cute date spot as well as being perfect for a group hangout - exuding relaxed energy and in our opinion, is the perfect afternoon coffee/donut pit stop!
Beci and Raph have been in a creative partnership for over a decade and a half - first collaborating on a streetwear fashion range, and then books, kids and all the rest! What a wild ride…we capture Beci with some sweet, sweet donuts from the shop, having a laugh with our talented photographer and friend Gina Diggle.
