Microcosm explores the hidden mysteries and beauty found in nature. Kuwaii introduces their SS15/16 collection exploring repeating patterns and shapes formed within the elegant natural markings of a plant cell. Designer Kristy Barber’s use of circular lines and shapes in the garments design lines make reference to the circular lines and shapes seen in the plant cells. The colour palette implores strong reds, greens and pinks in iconic Kuwaii silhouettes.
Working closely with textile design Cassie Byrnes, Kuwaii took the idea of magnifying or looking at something under the microscope further, to create the ‘Micro’ print in black and white, which is an enlarged section of ‘Nucleus,’ their colourful print. Kuwaii’s organic growth as a business over the past seven years has seen them master the perfect shapes for the female figure. These bold prints, when worked in with the Kuwaii’s staple pieces create the perfect balance, a harmony only nature can explain. So, something we have learnt from Microcosm is that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places, sometimes you just have to look a little closer.
