We’re over the moon to be stocking Surfaces, the debut book by Jackson Slattery.
“Tracing the Melbourne-born artist’s exploration of photorealist watercolour, Surfaces muses on both the physical and allegorical implications of its title. Comprising recent and never-before-seen works, Surfaces counterpoints the romantic against the absurd and the evocative against the surreal, forging a thread of potential narrative, formal and symbolic strands and motifs. Slattery’s paintings are striking for both their technical acumen and elusive subject matter. Occupying a space between fiction and non-fiction, they defy their initial read. The medium of watercolour may be one of the most inflexible, but Slattery’s Surfaces proves malleable and enigmatic in equal measure.”
Published by our mates at Erm Books, Surfaces was launched earlier this month in conjunction Slattery’s new exhibition Wrong Formalism showing now at Sutton Gallery until July 24th.
