Following the late 2010 release of Sequins & Sequence by noted Melbourne illustrator Kat Macleod, comes TWO brand new titles from the Melbourne publishers ERM.
Observable Universe by Thai artist Unchalee Anantawat explores themes of otherworldly intimacy and connections. Human and celestial forms intermingle and intermesh, technicolour tentacles tickle and entwine and branches sprout skyward from alien mud-men. It’s a fascinating concoction, skirting portraiture, psychedelia and the extraterrestrial.
Bad Driving, a new book of photographs by British-born photographer Louis Porter, is a chronicle of minor automotive mishaps. Adhering to what Porter describes as a broader thread of “very small-scale suburban conflict photography”, these stunningly composed, colour-saturated images prove both humorous and incisive. No cars are to be seen; the dramatic and the spectacular are off-limits. Rather, Porter records the auxiliary evidence: the bent poles, the twisted fences and the toppled post boxes.
Both titles are available now at Monk House Design, online and in store. Start collecting the series!
